Still Here!

It is Jan 22, 2010 and I will migrate this bo to the newer ones, but just to keep from receiving that email I thought I'd better put a new post up here!

How are all of you doing?

I almost lost ya!

Received an email from Blogger that I haven't posted to this blog in two years. That's because I started other blogs: http://www.itsbeenmyexperience.blogspot.com and http://www.isidragadget.blogspot.com, and I have been You Tubing mostly: http://www.youtube.com/user/MyWorldPodcast. Plus, I began ghostwriting them for other busy people and I had more kids! 51 of them to be exact. Between teaching at West L.A. College and at the Urban Media Foundation, I am BIZZY! So, check those blogs out, please, and I hope you will forgive me!

Thanks

Got to Tell It

If this email looks odd, please visit http://myworldpodcast.blogspot.com/

The fourth podcast is now up! There is a saying in the world of podcasting called "Pod fade." That means you start out all gungho, planning to do your podcast often but you look up and months have gone by. I am determined not to fade!

This time on My World Podcast, I release three episodes. Visit www.MyWorldPodcast.com to see them. They are:
Podcast #4: So Lynn Goes to Africa. This is an audio podcast about the middle son of House of the Rising Sons, who worked for 10 days in Nigeria. For more details, visit www.MyWorldPodcast.com

Podcast #3: Reclaiming Western Avenue -- A Neighborhood Clean Up This is a video piece I produced after witnessing the sheer energy of a neighborhood clean-up. Sure, you may be back in Virginia, or New York or Dallas, but I'll bet you have a neighborhood that needs cleaning up, too. We don't have to let them decay, people! Please check it out -- if for no other reason than the singing by S.A.D.A.A. on www.MyWorldPodcast.com. For still photos visit here.

Podcast #2:An interview with Butch Grimes at the Podcast Portable Media Expo in Ontario, CA.
Real Estate expert Butch Grimes is about to launch his own websites his own podcast network. He already has websites and other ventures of interest to you.

Next time: Are You Using Your IPOD? I am working on a podcast explaining further "How to Use That Ipod You Have Sitting in the Drawer" but I had some technical problems, so I will send that one along next time. But, if you are one who shelled out hundreds of dollars for a video IPOD and are not using it, here is some advice: Look around you, and find a teenager. Don't know any? Borrow the neighbor's kid you trust. Let them play with it (while you watch of course) and they will teach you how to use it in an hour, flat.

ESO WON BOOKS: I took my camera to the Eso Won Bookstore opening in Leimert Park, here in Los Angeles. Too busy to upload captions, I thought you might like to at least see who was there.

Heritage, a 2007 Appointment Book by Deloris Holt: I was really proud of Deloris Holt, author of Heritage, a 2007 Appointment Book featuring 365 Days of the African American Experience. The Eso Won grand opening was her first booksigning ever...and she got a chance to give a book to Congresswoman Diane Watson and one to Congresswoman Maxine Waters. Mrs. Holt is a retired educator who researched all the historical facts in the book. At age 72 when other seniors are trying to find somewhere to sit down, she is working feverishly to get these books she se;f published out of her garage an into happy homes. If you can help, they really are quality gifts, you may order from her website or contact her there: www. kinderpress-heritage.com. She is an excellent speaker, and she is a survivor too--of a heart attack and breast cancer. She is on a mission and I am helping her and hoping you will too. Get organized and help a great woman live her dream!

Dr. Kwaku's taking his Afrikan Mental Liberation Films Weekend to San Diego!
We are looking forward to spending Thanksgiving Saturday and Sunday in San Diego with Queen Makeda and the wonderful people there. If you are in the area, tell everyone you know about this free event to see some of the best historical and Afrikan centered films in Dr. Kwaku's collection. For more info, please visit his website: www.DrKwaku.com By the way, his classes in Leimert Park continue, and you can pay for single classes. The schedule is on the website, so come on by!

MY FAVORITE PODCASTS, BLOGS, and LINKS: I have fallen in love with Tavis Smiley's Podcast. I can never seem to remember to watch the TV show, but radio is where he shines. His latest episode features a chat with George Benson and Al Jarreau who have teamed up to do the album "Give It Up" together. Subscribe to it free in Itunes or visit www.Tavistalks.com

My otherall time favorite is the esteemed photographer Terry White (pictured at left) who hosts Adobe Creative Suite 2 Podcast. If you have Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, Go Live or Acrobat, he patiently tells you in over 50 podcasts tips and tutorials that can get you going. Or read his blog at www.terrywhite.com .

CONFESSIONS: Today, my husband and I were walking to the Farmer's Market around the corner, enjoying this second summer, when we saw two kids standing on the sidewalk talking to their mother who was in the car with the engine running. Just as we stepped in earshot, the mother shouted, "Get your little a**es in the car and shut your f*cking mouth."

We looked at each other in disbelief. The car was nice, the kids were well dressed, and the mother was too. My confession is that I did not turn full face to the woman and say...something. Anything. I let those words bounce around on the sidewalk and straight in the gutter, from whence I am certain they came. The kids' heads dropped and they reluctantly got in the car, embarrassed to the bone.

I know, I should have turned and stared and when she yelled "What are you looking at?" I should have said "A Mother Who Doesn't Care About Her Children." OK, maybe, I could have said something more profound. (I need a practice speech becuase it happened again today with a totally different mother! This time in the mall!) The mother would have either gotten out and started a Naomi Campbell scene or she would have driven off, thinking twice about the next time she spoke like that to her own children. Maybe I could get some violation tickets printed up and hand one to the next mother I see pulling a stunt like that. That oughtta get me beat down. Ideas, please? Has anyone else figured this out?

The Making of Thug--3 Strikes in California: Susette Fisher details the story of her visit to a prison to visit a young man serving 25 to life. He is not a thug, but his incarceration will make him one. Please read her blog and let her know what you think. www.MakingofaThug.blogspot.com
